How to Update Your Dio Node

We occasionally release firmware updates to improve performance, add new features, and ensure your Dio Node remains compatible with the latest versions of Apple AirPlay.

Note: To protect your home's network security, all Dio Node updates are completely opt-in. Your speakers will never update without your permission.

How to Install Updates

  1. Ensure your Dio Node is plugged into a power source and connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Press and hold the (+), (-), and Middle (Dio logo) buttons on your Dio Node simultaneously. Release all three buttons once the indicator light begins to flash.
  3. The indicator light will blink blue or green if an update is available and being installed.
  4. If the light does not change to blue or green after flashing, your speaker is already running the latest firmware version.
  5. Once the update is complete, the light will turn off and the speaker is ready to use once again.

Troubleshooting Common Update Issues

The light is blinking green for longer than 15 minutes

In rare cases, an update may stall due to a network interruption. If your speaker has been blinking green or blue for more than 15 minutes, follow these steps:

  1. Attempt to Cancel: While the speaker is blinking, press and hold all three buttons again for 2 seconds. This should trigger the speaker to stop the update and reboot using its previous firmware version. Once the speaker has rebooted and rejoined your Wi-Fi, try the 3-button hold again to restart the installation.
  2. Manual Power Cycle: If the speaker remains stuck after the cancel attempt, unplug it from power for 30 seconds and plug it back in. If this triggers a red-green-blue light cycle, follow the instructions below.
  3. Contact Support: If none of the troubleshooting steps are working, please contact our support team.

The light is cycling red-green-blue

If your speaker is continuously cycling through red, green, and blue lights, it indicates that a power failure occurred while the firmware was being rewritten. This is a safety mode that prevents the device from becoming permanently unresponsive.

Please refer to our Recovery Guide for RGB Light Cycling for step-by-step instructions on how to restore your speaker.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know when a new update is available?

We send an announcement to the email address associated with your purchase whenever a new firmware version is released. You can also visit our Release Notes page for a full history of improvements and new features.

Can I use my speaker while it is updating?

During the update process, audio playback will be temporarily paused. The speaker will be unavailable for a few minutes while the firmware installs and the device reboots. Once complete, the light will turn off.

I unplugged my speaker during an update. What do I do?

Dio Node is designed with built-in failsafes. Simply plug the speaker back in and wait for it to reboot and rejoin your Wi-Fi network. It should automatically resume the update process. If it does not, manually initiate it again using the 3-button hold. If issues persist, please contact our support team.

Can I cancel the update process midway?

Yes. While the speaker is blinking green or blue, you can cancel the process by pressing and holding all three buttons for 2 seconds. The speaker will stop the update, recover its previous firmware version, and reboot.

Note: If your speaker continues to blink green after attempting to cancel, you may be on an older software version that does not support the cancel function. In this case, please allow the update to complete normally.

Why should I update my firmware?

Updating ensures you have the most stable streaming experience possible. Firmware updates often include optimizations for Apple AirPlay, critical security patches, and improved synchronization for multi-room audio setups.
