An Unexpected Error Occurred During Setup

During the Wi-Fi setup process, you may occasionally see a message on your iPhone or iPad stating an "Unexpected Error Occurred." This is usually caused by temporary background processes or network security settings.

1. Try the setup process again

In most cases, this error often occurs as a one-off glitch if your iPhone or router is busy with other background tasks. Before moving on to deeper troubleshooting, simply close the setup window and try the process one more time.

  • Close the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Ensure your Dio Node is still blinking red. If it is not, trigger a Wi-Fi Reset.
  • Follow the Setup Guide again.

2. Reset iPhone Network Settings

If the error persists, your iPhone may have cached incorrect network data. Resetting your network settings—or using a secondary device—can often clear this error.

  • Use another device: If available, try setting up the Dio Node using a different iPhone or iPad. Once the speaker is on your Wi-Fi, it will be available to all devices on that network.
  • Reset Network Settings: On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will restart your iPhone and require you to re-enter your Wi-Fi passwords.

3. Check Router Security Settings

If you encounter the same error across multiple Apple devices, your Wi-Fi router's security settings may be preventing Dio Node from joining the network.

  • Review our Guide for Optimal Router Settings to ensure your network is configured to allow new AirPlay accessories.
  • Check that your router is not using a "MAC Address Filter" or "Guest Network" that restricts new device connections.
